The skin has many tasks. It protects the body against penetration of dirt, germs and toxic substances. An acid mantle eliminates germs through acidic perspiration. It forms sebum and secretes carbon dioxide.
Billions of beneficial germs live on our skin. These germs are distroyed through aggressive substances, such as synthetic soaps, strong preservatives or chemical dyes, and by showering/bathing too long or hot as well as stress.
Generally our skin rebuilds its acid mantle, but it loses its effectiveness when constantly exposed to harsh and aggressive substances contained in many of todays synthetic lotions and soaps.
Our skin regulates body temperature and protects us from excessive solar radiation. It regulates 20% of the body's water elimination through perspiration and helps remove toxins.
Production of Vitamin D is another important task our skin performs, which is related to the amount of sunshine available.
Here are some elements that can impair our skins vital function:
- Nutritional Starvation
- Medication
- Air pollution
- Nicotine
- Excessive ultraviolet radiation
- Hard, impure tap water
- Swimming in chlorinated water
- Aggressive wash agents in soaps, shampoos, bath additives and
shower gels.
- Excessive use of synthetic cosmetic products
- Emotional influences like stress
- Excessive exposure to sun, wind
- Inadequate skin care
Studies in Europe have found that the skin can only absorb ten percent of most synthetic creams. This is partly because the mineral oils they contain cannot be dissolved by the skin fat, and partly because large molecules of the active substances cannot penetrate the upper layer of skin (except i.e. liposomes and essential fatty acids).
Many cosmetics promise incredible effects, yet the consumers skin shows little improvement and people are still suffering from eczema, dry itchy and irritated skin. Granted, our deteriorating environment and inadequate nutrition are also influencing factors, but aggressive, synthetic cleansing and skin care products damage the skins natural flora even further.
Animal testing is conducted to insure these products are safe and thousands of their lives are taken by these experiments. Substances are sprayed into their eyes while clamped open, they are injected or forced to ingest these substances. A high price to pay for beauty.
Speaking of price, considering the low cost of manufacturing these commercially produced products, one must wonder why they cost that much, when their synthetical ingredients are made for only pennies.
